Vincent Berkley has spent his long and distinguished career in service to others, including advising and advocating for the disadvantaged, particularly those in pursuit of healthcare careers. Earning a medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital and a fellowship in Nephrology at the Cleveland Clinic. His first duty was on the Northern Nevada Paiute Reservation, but he was later stationed at Phoenix Indian Medical Center where he held various positions including Regional Nephrologist, Chief of the Medical Staff, Clinical Director, and Acting Chief Executive Officer. He also served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Southwestern Region of the Indian Health Service (IHS) and for IHS Headquarters. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he was the Senior Health Official representing the Health and Human Services Secretary in the State of Louisiana. After his retirement from the Commissioned Corps, he continues active practice as the Medical Director for two Youth Residential Treatment Centers.
